WILD BETTA BELLICA
(Betta bellica)
Description:
Unlike their hybris cousins, the Siamese Fighting Fish, males can be kept together (in a well planted tank). Anabantoid (they have primitive lungs) this fish may be kept in bowls. At spawning time, separate pairs.

KISSING GOURAMI
(Helostoma temminckii)
Description:
When young, this fish seems rather thin and unattractive. As they grow they become more and more beautiful. They do best in larger tanks with hardy plants (try Java Fern), and timid fish of similar size. Males will lock lips (“kissing”)for dominance, the weaker fish will shy away unhurt.

DWARF GUOURAMI
(Colisa lalia)
Description:
A timid bubblenest builder that will sometimes spit out of the water (as if catching flying insects). A colorful community fish, keep with other timid fish only. Males have deeper coloration. Mature pairs will swim together.

SIAMESE FIGHTING FISH
(Beta splendens)
Description:
Selectively bred for beauty. Males have larger fins and are more colorful. Never put males together, they will tear each other apart. This species has primitive lungs and can be kept in bowls as well as regular aquariums. Very sensitive to temperature changes.

BLUE SPOT GUOURAMI
(Trichogaster trichopterus)
Description:
A very hardy species that will eat anything. A good community fish when kept with other timid species. Use lots of plants to keep this bubblenest builer more at home. Keep only one male per tank. The male has a pointed dorsal fin.

MOONLIGHT GUOURAMI
(Trichogaster microlepis)
Description:
A bubblenest builer needing a larger tank. If a community tank, mix with timid fish of equal size. Plant densely with Java Fern and Onion Plants. The pelvic fins on the female are yellow, orange on the male. Prized as food in Southeast Asia.
